Streamlining Aircraft Maintenance with Bluetooth Technology
Our team was tasked with developing a mobile application to complement a proof-of-concept Bluetooth-enabled wear pin measurement tool. This innovative tool, developed by the R&D team, allows aircraft maintainers to accurately measure brake wear pins and transmit the data directly to a mobile device.
How it Works
Traditionally, brake wear pin measurements were visually inspected and manually recorded on paper logs. To streamline this process, we introduced a Bluetooth-enabled device that measures the pin length and transmits the data directly to a maintainer's phone or tablet. This eliminates the need for manual recording and reduces the risk of human error. Additionally, we implemented a feature to email the measurements, and future iterations may include automated work order generation for brake replacements.
Implementation
I led the design and development of the mobile application, working with a small team of one full-time developer and a software engineering intern.
Outcome
The Bluetooth-enabled device we worked with was a prototype and not yet ready for market. We integrated this technology into our AI-powered maintenance tool, which is detailed in another portfolio item. While the R&D team secured a patent for the device, it has not been commercially released as of 2024.
